What should be on each slide in your PowerPoint Presentation?
Ethics, Justice & Rights: What issue did you select? Choose a current event issue that you want to highlight that addresses either 1) an ethical choice made concerning Africa, 2) an issue of justice or injustice in Africa or 3) a question concerning the rights of individuals or groups in Africa.
–5 Slide minimum
–Possible topics: Congo war, Rwandan genocide (past), FGM, Somali terrorism, Darfur crisis, Islamic feminism, Environmentalism in Nigeria, Blood Diamonds, South Africa’s Apartheid (past), Human Rights and Indigenous Tribes, AIDS, etc.
Quotes: What words inspire you? Describe sayings, passages, or quotations from literature (poetry, books, etc.) that are either from or reflect your culture.
History: Whose stories are told? Describe the most important events in your culture’s history, how those events influenced change, etc.
Famous People: Who influenced others? Describe popular leaders, their accomplishments, contributions and/or sacrifices, as well as how they influenced change
Government: How is it structured? Describe how the government works, who holds power, and what it does for its citizens.
Economy: How is money made? Describe the jobs and businesses found in your country, who has wealth and who doesn’t, and statistics related to both.
Religion: What are the dominant faiths? Describe churches, sects, branches of faiths, holy books, religious leaders, etc.
Rituals: What do people practice? Describe popular folktales, stories and myths, rituals for births, coming of age, marriage, and death, etc.
Music: What do people listen to? Describe popular music, traditional music, cultural instruments, dances, music festivals, etc.
Food: What do people eat? Describe popular foods, indigenous ingredients, cultural habits among meals, recipes, etc.
Geography: Where do people live? Describe what the land is like, where cities are, and what small towns or villages are like; describe vegetation, animals, the ocean, etc.
Language: What do people say? Describe common sayings, explain where the language originated, simple expressions, numbers, greetings, etc.
Architecture: What are homes like? nDescribe styles of building, explain how they were influenced, how architecture influences culture, etc.
Women: What are women’s lives like? Describe famous women, women’s role in your culture’s history, gender roles, women and religion, leadership, money, etc.
Questions: What do you wonder? Ask questions concerning your thoughts on the past, present or future of your culture, it’s place in the world, it’s ability to stay the same or change, etc.
The Future: What do you envision? Based on your personal knowledge and research of your culture, where do you see it going, doing, changing, etc.?
